Missed-call text-back: every caller you miss gets a text within a minute
When you can't pick up, the next best thing is a fast, friendly text. It keeps the conversation with you instead of the company down the street.
Why a missed call costs you the job
When someone's water heater is leaking or their AC is out, they don't leave a voicemail and wait. They call the next number on the list. If you're on a ladder, under a house, or it's 7 p.m., that call is gone before you ever see it.
A text that arrives within a minute changes that. It tells the caller a real business saw their call, gives them a reason to wait, and lets them explain what they need without another round of phone tag.
How it works
- A call goes unanswered because you're on a job, it's after hours, or the line is busy.
- Within a minute, the caller gets a text from your business, in your words.
- They reply with what they need. The agent asks the few questions you'd ask: what's wrong, the address, and how urgent it is.
- You get a short summary on your phone. If your calendar is connected, the agent can offer open times and book the visit.
What the texts look like
"Hi, this is Desert Air Heating & Cooling. Sorry we missed your call! We're on a job right now. What can we help you with?"
Caller: "AC is blowing warm air. House is getting hot."
Agent: "Sorry to hear that. What's the address, and is anyone in the home who's at risk in the heat? We have an opening tomorrow at 8 a.m. Want it?"
The business name above is just an example. Every message is written around your business and approved by you before anything goes live.
The rules we build in
- It only texts people who called you. It's a reply to their call, not a marketing blast, and it never adds anyone to a promotional list.
- Every message offers a way out. Reply STOP and the texts stop.
- Emergencies get flagged. If the reply sounds urgent, the agent alerts you right away instead of waiting for a summary.
- Carrier registration is handled. US carriers require business texting numbers to be registered (a process called A2P 10DLC). We take care of that with you during setup, so your texts actually get delivered.
Text-back or a full AI receptionist?
Text-back is the simplest way to stop losing missed calls, and it works alongside the phone setup you already have. An AI receptionist goes further: it answers the call live and books the job on the spot. Tala, our AI receptionist, includes missed-call text-back, so if you want both, you get both. If you're not sure which fits, the free audit will tell you.
What we need from you
- Your business phone setup, so we can check how texting will work with it
- Your hours and the areas you serve
- The questions you ask every new caller
- Your calendar, if you want the agent to book visits
Missed-call text-back questions
Can it text from my existing business number?
Often, yes, but it depends on your phone provider and whether the number can send texts. We check your setup during the free audit and tell you exactly how it would work before you commit.
Is it okay to text people who called me?
Replying to someone who just called your business is expected, and every message includes a way to opt out. We also register your texting number with the carriers so messages are delivered properly.
What if the caller has an emergency?
The agent flags urgent replies and alerts you right away, and you decide in advance what counts as urgent for your business.
Does Tala already do this?
Yes. Tala, our AI receptionist, includes missed-call text-back. We can also set up text-back on its own if you'd rather keep answering calls yourself.
What does it cost?
The audit is free. It's part of our Never Miss a Lead package at $750 a month plus a one-time $3,000 setup, or on its own it's $300 a month plus a one-time $1,200 setup. Setup can be split across your first three months. You'll know the exact price before anything is built. See all packages.

Tell us about your business. In a 30–45 minute audit we'll show you where you're losing calls, time and money, and which AI agent would pay off first. No obligation.
